Questions/Discussion
Any difference between こと and の?
to my understanding, の is more subjective and concrete, like something you can actually touch while こと is more objective and abstract like toughts
but it seems like it's a rather loose definition, i've seen both used as in
読むのが好き and 読むことが好き, but the first one being more used in speech and the second in writings/formal settings
might be a little late but according to my teacher, it depends on the verb after こと/の
こと is used mainly for things related with speech, eg. 話す、伝える、考える、信じる, etc.
の is used mainly for senses, eg. 見る、聞く、etc. but also include 待つ、手伝う、やめる and 止める.
Of course, there are some verbs where both can be used. They are: 知る、思い出す、忘れる、覚える、認める、後悔する、わかる and 気づく.
On the other hand, these rules are completely disregarded when using set phrases like ことにする.
I dont really know if that’s all but hope this helps :)

の is used in a more direct way, like the action of the verb, for example, "描くのが大好きです" (I like drawing), it has a nuance that, in the example, you like drawing as an action. Conversely, こと is used to indicate the essence of the verb, for example "彼が話していることを聞いている” (I'm listening to what he`s saying), it has the nuance that he`s listening to the contents of what he said, not the action of him talking. It's hard at firts, ut try to find example sentences and you'll get the hang of it eventually, hope this helps :D
