Forums - How to study only a certain amount each day?

The app/website tells me that Renshuu stops users from studying more than what we can handle. I'm assuming the pacing options control this.

However, I keep clicking on "Study New" each time and it keeps on giving me new terms. Yesterday I've even reached a hundred vocab terms in a single session using the Normal pacing setting. I am afraid I wouldn't retain them very well if there's too much.

Unless I misunderstood the instructions on how to use the app.

However, I've went on almost a week without opening the app and just recently got back to committing to it. Could this be the reason why hundreds of terms are now dumped on to me?

TL;DR when do I stop clicking "Study new" for each session?

Happy to help, and sorry for the confusion!

If you tap on the settings icon next to the Study New button, you can turn off new terms from coming in.

Alternately, you could tap the Learning pace link just below the schedule's name to adjust how often new terms come in.

You can actually fine tune this setting a LOT more - these are just common choices. You can also control the max number of terms (to review) for each day.

To do so, tap the schedule to go to the summary page. Here, next to the study button, hit the settings icon, and then "Schedule Settings" (Yes, I plan to revamp the layout for this page later this year).

In Schedule settings, there's lots of good stuff in there to take more control of your schedule. You should see how to adjust the number of new terms, set daily/weekly limits on the number of new terms to advance, etc.

Also, you can uncheck the "Study as much as I can" and set an upper limit of questions for each day.

I hope this helps! renshuu is an extremely flexible system, but it *does* take some time to get used to everything. Spending a few minutes with these settings will be a huge benefit to you, though!

I neglected to say - I am going to take a look and see if the "max per day/week" default settings should be better adjusted for new users. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

Update: looking at the code, the issue is coming in that the defaults given to new users puts a daily cap on new terms, but not a weekly one. I will be adjusting this in an update tomorrow. It will only affect newly created schedules, though. I would, on that page, set it to something like "max of 40 new terms per week".

Thank you so much. I guess I got confused because when I tap on the Leaning pace link, I set it to Normal which says "Up to 6 new words each quiz, max 20 a day", but then I can keep on clicking "Study new" and it keeps letting me learn new items. I which case I keep asking "I thought it only allows max 20 a day. It says so on the Learning pace option". (;_;)

If I uncheck the "Study as much as I can option", would it still give me new terms as scheduled? Nevermind that. Found out I can set the amount of new terms per day.

I'm currently just trying to find out my pacing and how much I can really take per day that's why I was relying on the app defaults for the initial settings and plan on tweaking it as I go. It's just that currently it doesn't stop me from binging the lessons.

Thanks again. :)

That does sound like it is an issue, to be honest. I think I know why it's not stopping you - it goes back to a user request from a long time ago. It was basically, "I have it set to a certain number of new terms, but I'd like a way to force it past that when I want to." The problem is that you are never really shown that, so it can definitely be cleaned up.

I have no doubt that there are others with the same issue as you, so I'll be working to clean this up soon! Thank you again for bringing it to my attention!

Hello!

I wanted to give you an update. It took awhile to get to this, but I found the issue with it continuously letting you study new terms on the dashboard. It works correctly on the summary page, though.

Anyway, I am adding some changes to prevent you from *easily* studying new terms past your limit, and I'll also be adding some language to better explain what's going on!

Excited to see if it has an effect :)

Picture of the way it'll look, with the new info box (appears the first time you get an Extra Review button)

How can I limit the number of qu3stions per item. The dsshboard shows that there X number of items to review andwhenI click on Study 3 times X questions come up. This happens only in one of the schedules and I can't find the setting to fix this. Sorry if the question is too basic.
