Hi,

i just spent a bit of time in Renshuu's settings to tweak a few paramters, saved once I was done, and ended up with hundreds of terms to review in my vocabulary schedules, all plummeted to level 1 of mastery.

As an example, my "Words for Intermediate Japanese" schedule, which I had finished to review, displayed 566 terms to review, all with a level 1 of mastery, resulting in an average mastery of 23, although it was around 65 before.

Here is the list of parameters I changed:

  • Switched font.
  • Toggled pitch accent when introducing new terms.
  • Toggled usage notes when introducing new terms.
  • Deactivated furigana on unknown kanji.
  • Toggled "Show 'Mark as wrong' button".
  • The "kanji I study in renshuu" check box, which I had seen mentionned on a post on a similar problem, is and was already checked.

Has anyone been exposed to the same problem and / or knows how to fix this one?

Thank you for your help and attention.

UPDATE: I switched back to showing furigana of unknown kanjis and that fixed the problem. If that's of any help, I don't study kanji schedules. Any ideas on the cause of this problem and is there a way of disabling furiganas without impacting mastery levels?

It was probably triggered by your furigana change. Depending on your other settings, this could create new terms to review of words that you previously mastered with furigana.

Your mastery levels aren't actually impacted. You're simply "adding" a new vector that starts from level 1, so your "Mastery %" adjusts accordingly. You can see the vector-by-vector breakdown when you click into a schedule.

For example, if I "activate" any of the vectors I haven't studied (0%) on a schedule that contains this term, its "Overall" will drop to level 1 and I'll get reviews for those vectors. Keep in mind the other vectors will remain completely untouched.

(I don't study "Kana" vectors, which is probably the opposite of what you have)

Edit: I believe it's these two that get "switched" when you mess with the global settings:

In my case, if I globally force kana, kanji won't be available anymore, and I'll get thousands of reviews because I haven't studied the kana vectors.

Thanks so much for your answer! I thought about something like this but I was sceptical about the toggling of furigana consisting in a distinct study vector.

Thanks!
