So last night I had an original story idea
the notes might not be super coherent cos I wrote it up at 3am and also the format might be a bit weird, and it also spoils like the entire plot
but let me know if you'd read something like this
## Summary:
> In a growing civilization, there is only one constant. The hero is the biggest fluctuation in this world as with each time they die for a cause, they reappear again an age later and retain their memories. The only constant is the immortal, who pretends to forget each time they meet the hero to spur them onwards to becoming an immortal themselves. Trapped in a loop of suffering with no support but the immortal, they soon find themselves relying on the very being that is forcing them to regress. As the scars continue to build, and the ages quickly pass by for the hero, the immortal continues waiting for the day where they are the same, and are finally allowed to love them wholeheartedly.
## Outline
- The first age: a fledgling country growing in magic and knowledge, a primitive culture just now beginning to take root. The hero is a hunter, who kills a legendary beast. When hired by the king to kill another beast far away, they go and as a companion, the immortal goes with them. The immortal begins to fall in love, and hears the voices of the other immortals gambling to support the hero. The immortal creates a contract with them instead, a red thread that will connect them when the regressions begin. The hero dies in battle against the beast, and the immortal moves towards the next age.
- The second age: civilization has grown from a single city to a territory, and agriculture has expanded. A library has been built, and a school for magic. The hero spends long hours learning about the world they left behind and the advancement of this new society. The immortal is there and watches them from a distance, until finally the hero is given a task. The hero becomes an attendant of the king due to their deep magic, and is eventually poisoned by another aide to the king. The immortal watches, and cradles the hero in their last moments. Just before they die, they whisper: "I'll see you soon." It would be a long time for the immortal, but only a little time for the hero.
- The third age: a monarchy has been established, and the brave hunter and the clever scholar the hero had been in their past regressions have become legends. The hero is now a duke, or something of the sort at the border defending their own territory. The immortal appears as a suitor, and the hero accepts. Soon, the hero begins relying on the immortal and wonders if they can really marry them like this when they apparently have no memory of these previous ages. Their mutual love is revealed, and in a moment of weakness, the immortal tells the hero about what they have done. They say that they lied, and that they remember everything. No explanation of their immortality, but they take the blame for the hero's regression. Betrayed, the hero goes to war to protect the border, and dies a war hero. The immortal lives on.
- The fourth age: when the hero regains consciousness, they're on a new battlefield as a general. Magic has become much stronger, and the hero cannot figure out what is going on. But on the other side of the battlefield, the immortal is watching them. They have become enemies, which left a bitter taste in the hero's mouth. The hero studies when they're summoned to the capital, but the toll of regressing has weakened them. They return to the battlefield, and the immortal is wounded after an ambush in the woods. They're abandoned, and the hero has lost all of their comrades. The hero nurses the immortal, and they part with the words: "It's only us, you know. We are the only ones who see ages change. Wouldn't it be better to be allies?" The hero replies with cold words about broken trust, and wishes the immortal a painless death, not knowing that the immortal will continue to wait for the hero's return. The hero dies in battle once more, and the immortal continues to spread their legend.
- The fifth age: magic has progressed to the point that humanity lacks nothing. Knowledge has expanded, and after several wars, the world is at peace. The worn and battle-scarred hero walks alone, unable to find their place in this peace. The immortal comes beside them, and finally speaks of their immortality. The hero is silent, and even as they continue to rely on the immortal, they can't find forgiveness yet. But as they see more, and how long the immortal waited, they begin learning more about the immortal's heart. And with the growth of knowledge, love comes with it. It's a disease this time, brought about by the cycle of regression and without a cure. The hero on their deathbed seeks out the immortal, and grips their hand. They beg them not to forget them, to not act as strangers or enemies anymore. They tell the immortal how they long for the third age, when things were simple. The immortal smiles and kisses their forehead saying "I'll see you soon" one last time as finally they have at last become one and the same: immortals that no longer suffer, and no longer have to wait. With their final breath, something new begins each time. And now two immortals walk the world, hand in hand as they face each new age with the knowledge that nothing now can separate them. The fear of the regression is gone, all that remains is eternity.
It'll probably change as I plan more
let me know what you think though
