This is a forum specifically for art challenges. I am having it be separate from the Safe Place For Artists thread as this one will be much smaller, and that thread is more focused on getting feedback on your art. Here I will come up with a self imposed art challenge that you are free to do or not do.
This thread IS for :
Asking about the rules of the challenge
Posting your drawings related to the challenge
This thread IS NOT for :
Chatting and small talk (that stuff is for the renshuu community discord)
Posting random artwork (that's for the Safe Place for Artists thread)
Please do not post too much on this thread, as it is not supposed to be a conversation, but a place for fun art challenges!
THIS MONTH'S CHALLENGE: Make-it-May (peak challenge name lol)
This month will be focused on Character Design. If you have ever heard of Inktober, this is basically that but specifically for designing characters. Rules are:
Art must be appropriate (duh)
Each day will have a prompt I give (this post will be edited to add the prompt of the day, that way we don't have unnecessary posts for renshuu to handle) and if you wish to participate you will follow the prompt and interpret it in some way to make your character for the day
At least one short paragraph of backstory is recommended if you want to go the extra mile (please don't make it too long tho)
THIS IS SELF IMPOSED. Don't feel pressured to do it. You can skip days or drop out at any time. I will also keep previous prompts on this post in case you wish to catch up
DAY 1 PROMPT: Wooden
I’m gonna have fun working my creative brain with this I have a question tho, are we allowed to use characters that we’ve already made, or wold that be defeating the purpose
So like, if I understand right, we have to draw a new character that's made of wood?
You can use a character you've already made, but I think you should redraw them, or at least try and do something new with them. Make sure they follow the theme!
Doesn't have to be made of wood... just has to be related! You could draw a wooden puppet, a tree person, a woodcutter, someone who sands wood, ect. You are free to interpret the prompt!
Ignore how horribly sketchy and slightly disturbing this is meet the wood sprite! He's very old, and has lived in the warped forest for as long as anyone can remember. Many are scared off by his appearance, but he's actually a very sweet and knowing fellow who cares for the forest as best he can. His joints and limbs are held together by vines, and all the knots on his body serve as his eyes. Random note: he dislikes bugs.
I can see why he dislikes bugs! I imagine he hates termites especially
Here is my creature I didn't draw it very well because I've never tried drawing it before
It's a baby plant creature that hangs from trees and imprints and grabs onto to the first creature it comes across, so sometimes random people or animals, which always makes the person or animal mad because they either get stuck to the tree from the creature grabbing it or permanently stuck to the creature until it dies and the parent tree creatures get very mad because the baby creatures usually end up dying
As for this creatures backstory it doesn't have one bc it's still just a baby
Im so sorry my drawing is not that good, its goofy..cuz I don't have a lot of experience in digital drawing..
I know this doesn't look wooden but it is based on Wooden Gods, that's why its green...
Origin :
Long before , during the age of mythical beasts and forgotten clans, there existed a secretive sect known as the Kodai Mokuton => "Ancient Wood-Binders". It was said that they were to have a direct connection to the Shinju (God Tree) and practiced a stronger version of Mokuton.. In a desperate bid to protect the natural world from the destruction of war, they created a living beast - a dragon entirely from sentient energy-infused wood, nurtured for centuries by sacred rituals and bound by powerful magical seals. But in the final ritual, something went wrong. To make the dragon more powerful, they infused it with all of the 6 nature energies, stolen through forbidden techniques. The dragon was never meant to wield this power, it was a vessel, a protector.. Realizing their mistake too late, the Kodai Mokuton sealed the creature in a sacred forest temple, guarded by 封印四黒封陣結界. As time passed, the sect faded into legend.
In present timeline, something disturbs the temple's seals. It is the one, the forgotten one, the one called " The Void Heir ", who can reverse any 封印術, and can walk between time and space moments like crossing the road. The wooden dragon awakens releasing the Bomb, perhaps as a reflexive defense or a sign of its corrupted state.
